Penrith Valley has a long history in providing quality educational services, led by the University of Western Sydney, Western Sydney Institute of TAFE, and the Nepean Hospital as a teaching hospital of Sydney University. Penrith provides a complete range of schooling and vocational and other training services to promote life long learning and skills development to meet the needs of an evolving industry base.
Penrith Valley’s population is expected to grow over time and such growth will create new opportunities for businesses in such sectors as retail, business and personal services, manufacturing, tourism, health care and education. Our educational institutions and training providers are well equipped to serve the skills and professional development training needs of all present and future industries that will grow and evolve in Penrith Valley.
Children’s ServicesNinety six child care centres across Penrith provide a full range of children’s services required by families. Penrith Council operates a total of 34 of these centres.

Primary Education
There are 12 private and 37 public schools located in the major residential areas in Penrith Valley. There are also primary schools with support units .
Secondary EducationThe number of secondary schools in Penrith Valley number 20, comprising eight private and 12 state high schools. Penrith also has a number of high schools with support units.

Technical and Further Education (TAFE)
Western Sydney Institute (WSI) is the fastest growing TAFE Institute in New South
Wales. WSI delivers more than 1,000 courses to over 43,000 students in Australia through colleges and specialist centres. WSI takes training solutions directly into the workplace with workplace delivery and assessment. WSI offers programs for international students in
Australia and a number of overseas countries, including Malaysia, Singapore, Fiji and Hong Kong.

Nepean Community College
Nepean Community College (NCC) is a local not-for-profit community based learning network. NCC is governed by the local College Council and financed by the enrolment fees that are received from courses offered.
NCC is also funded through the State Government.

University of Western Sydney
(UWS) Penrith Campus
The 158 hectare Penrith campus of the University of Western Sydney (UWS) has
sites at Kingswood and Werrington and offers courses in contemporary arts, design,
education, business, science, engineering, arts, humanities and astronomy.
Penrith is home to state of the art teaching facilities such as the Astronomy Centre
which houses the largest campus telescope in Australia, and the Mechatronics facility
which provides training, education and research opportunities to our engineering students.
Another recent addition to the Penrith campus is the new multi-million dollar Centre for Contemporary Performance at Werrington South. Officially opened in September 1999, the Centre is the largest performance space of its kind in Sydney and is the training ground for Australia’s next generation of theatre and film stars.
The Centre of Advanced Systems Engineering (CASE) is also located on the Penrith campus. CASE provides facilities for computing Honours, research students and university researchers to work collaboratively with industry partners to solve leading edge technical problems. Its
main research streams are data management, high performance cluster computing and virtual reality environments. CASE’s capabilities have been significantly enhanced by the setting up of the High Performance Computer Centre which will give industry access to a high performance computing and visualisation facility, providing a competitive edge in prototype
development and product design.

Skillswest Training Company
Skillswest Training Company (STC) is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) that offers a range of training and assessment services including traineeships.
It specialises in nationally accredited and recognised training and assessment services for the general construction, business services, IT, retail automotive, engineering, extractive, horticulture transport and distribution and hospitality industries.

Workline Employment
Set up by the Penrith Valley Chamber of Commerce, Workline employment places pre-screened trainees and apprenticeships in businesses throughout Western Sydney. The agency was initially set up to get more local school leavers into apprenticeships especially in trades suffering skills shortages, however trainees can be of any age from 15 years to 64. Workline contributes to the cost of TAFE fees, text books and has a rewards program for good TAFE results.

WSROC Group Apprentices/ Retail Business and Skills Centre
WSROC Training & Employment (Group Apprentices) began operations in 1981 with
the support of the Local, State and Federal Governments, Trade Unions and Industry. The
company is a not-for-profit Public Company and Registered Charity, with the aim of
providing quality employment and training solutions to the community of Western Sydney.
Since 1981, the group training arm of the company has graduated thousands of well
trained trades people. In addition traineeships have formed a large percentage of our current business, throughout the Western Sydney Region.
WSROC Training & Employment as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), is registered with the Vocational Education and Training Accreditation Board (VETAB) and our scope includes; Business Services, Finance, Information Technology, Retail Operations and Frontline Management to name our most sought after qualifications.

Nepean Hospital
Nepean Hospital is a teaching hospital of Sydney University. It is the major referral facility in the Wentworth health area and provides clinical services in most medical disciplines and sub-specialties to the people of Penrith, Hawkesbury and Blue Mountains. There are chairs in Medicine, Surgery, Psychiatry, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Haematology and
Nursing. Senior academic positions are held in Paediatrics and Critical Care.
The Nepean Hospital is accredited by the various colleges for training in anaesthetics,
emergency medicine, intensive care, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, psychiatry, surgery and internal medicine. Facilities include a trauma care centre, cancer care centre, drug & alcohol centre and a women’s and children’s health building.
Reconstruction of a new Emergency Department is currently underway.
Nepean Campus has close to 120 medical, international and post-graduate research
students studying towards their degrees.
